The Knife & Fork was established in 1912 as a private gentleman's club. The Flemish styled Treasure was to be an architectural focal point in the development of the Chelsea section of Atlantic City.
All went well for this small inn until the advent of prohibition. A rebellious club membership defied the laws of an alcohol free society and openly served liquor at the Bar. Within weeks federal agents, in true roaring twenties style, entered the bar and destroyed all of its contents.
After that point a declining club membership led to the eventual sale to the Latz family in 1927. The Latz family had been a part of the Atlantic City scene since the 1890's bought the Knife and Fork. Mack and his wife Allah Latz owned and operated the Alamac Hotel and thought that this charming Inn would be the right venture for their son Milton and his wife Evelyn. Milton and Evelyn successfully managed the Knife and Fork until his passing in 1948. Their son Mack, a decorated war hero, along with his wife Elaine redefined the business through the post war decades. Now, their son, Andrew, along with his wife Adrienne, have the pleasure to bring you another generation of seashore tradition.
Today, the Knife and Fork retains all of the features of it's roaring twenties style gentlemans club and Flemish architecture, the solid gold weathervane, the discrete but attentive service, a distinct brand of American cuisine, and a super wine cellar. Under a fourth generation of Latz family ownership it is still the preferred meeting place for those that travel to the Shore in search of fine dining and seashore cuisine.
